Advice to Assist You with Bidding on eBay:

1) Far too many sellers just put 'rare' into all of their descriptions - the chances are that the item is common and has just been described wrongly.

2) You will often find that your positive feedback appears within a few minutes of you paying if you pay as soon as the auction ends.

3) When you use Buy it Now, you know the asking price and you can take some time to decide whether to pay it or not - you can even negotiate. You don't need to keeping your eye on the auction, or get caught up in the last-minute bidding frenzy that is now inevitable on any popular item. Not only that, but the seller will be happy to get a fixed price for their item, and they're likely to nicer to you than usual. Some sellers can be a little resentful when they feel that you got a little too much of a bargain on their item. On the other hand, you will almost certainly pay more for the item, especially with more expensive items. Also, it takes some of the fun out of eBay. Aren't you there for an auction, after all?

4) Do not get caught in a bid chasing race. Decide what is the maximum you want to pay for an item and enter that as your maximum amount. If you happen to lose the auction, remember that it is a large market and similar items appear often.

5) Ensure that you read the item description very carefully. There might be information in there that could could cost you a dear price if you ignored it. Ignorance will not absolve you of your responsibilities, unfortunately.

Over the years, eBay has introduced all sorts of different auction types, in an effort to give people more options when they buy and sell their things on eBay. Large international companies, such as IBM, sell their newest products and offer services on eBay using competitive auctions and fixed-priced storefronts.

Looking Back at eBay History:

In late 1999 a man offered one of his kidneys for auction on eBay, attempting to profit from the potentially lucrative (and, in the United States, illegal) market for transplantable human organs.
