1) Far too many sellers just put 'rare' into all of their descriptions - the chances are that the item is common and has just been described wrongly.
2) If you find something you haven't heard of, and the description calls it 'rare', don't assume that it actually is.
3) If you experience problems and you don't want to go through eBay's own process, especially if the auction was for a high-value item, then you can use a third-party mediator.
4) Do not get caught in a bid chasing race. Decide what is the maximum you want to pay for an item and enter that as your maximum amount. If you happen to lose the auction, remember that it is a large market and similar items appear often.
5) Some items on eBay are rare and valuable, while many others are dusty gizmos that would have been thrown away if not for the thousands of eager bidders across the world.
Millions of collectibles, appliances, computers, furniture, equipment, vehicles, and other miscellaneous items are listed, bought, and sold daily. The company's current business strategy includes increasing revenue by increasing international trade within the eBay system.
A Tidbit of eBay History:
In 1999 eBay acquired the auction house Butterfield & Butterfield, which it sold in 2002 to Bonhams.
