1) Sellers won't generally be reluctant to sell to buyers without much of a reputation, simply because it is the buyer who takes most of the risk in a transaction.
2) After every transaction both the buyer and seller have the option of rating each other.
3) If the item you are viewing has unclear pictures, email the seller and ask them for better pictures.
4) Try browsing the eBay categories. eBay places all items that are on auction in the eBay category hierarchy. The top categories remain stable, but there are always new sub-categories showing up. You will find the top-level categories on the main eBay home page. From there you can drill down to the lowest level sub-category to find items very neatly grouped into very focused topics.
5) When you have problems with a transaction, you should take it up with the seller - most will be responsive, as do not want to have their reputation damaged when an upset buyer leaves negative feedback for all their future buyers to see.
Large international companies, such as IBM, sell their newest products and offer services on eBay using competitive auctions and fixed-priced storefronts. The company's current business strategy includes increasing revenue by increasing international trade within the eBay system.
An Interesting Fact about eBay:
In November 2006, a United Kingdom High Court ruled that a VeRO rightsholder's takedown request to eBay constituted a legal threat under design patent law.
