Helpful Advice to Guide You with Coping with Bidding on eBay:

1) Either/or in your search: If you want to search for lots of words at once, just put them in brackets: the TV example from earlier could become '(TV,television)', which would find items with either word.

2) eBay is an easy place for unscrupulous sellers to market counterfeit merchandise, which can be difficult for novice buyers to distinguish without careful study of the auction description.

3) Try browsing the eBay categories. eBay places all items that are on auction in the eBay category hierarchy. The top categories remain stable, but there are always new sub-categories showing up. You will find the top-level categories on the main eBay home page. From there you can drill down to the lowest level sub-category to find items very neatly grouped into very focused topics.

4) Paying by cheques and money orders: This is payment the old-fashioned way, and will lead to a long wait to your item. You need to post the cheque or money order, then the seller has to take it to the bank and get it cleared, and only then do they send the item. The only reason to use this method is if either you or the seller distrusts electronic payment methods. If you're willing to go to the trouble with these sellers, though, you might get an item very cheaply, as most buyers just can't be bothered. When you use a money order or check to pay, make sure to print the eBay order confirmation page (it will be emailed to you) and insert it into the envelope with your payment. Underline or circle important information like your mailing address and the item number. Finally, remember to be patient: maintain communication with the seller, as it surprisingly can take several months before everything comes together and your item turns up.

5) Sellers won't generally be reluctant to sell to buyers without much of a reputation, simply because it is the buyer who takes most of the risk in a transaction.

Over the years, eBay has introduced all sorts of different auction types, in an effort to give people more options when they buy and sell their things on eBay. Millions of collectibles, appliances, computers, furniture, equipment, vehicles, and other miscellaneous items are listed, bought, and sold daily.

A Tidbit of eBay History:

In November 2006, a United Kingdom High Court ruled that a VeRO rightsholder's takedown request to eBay constituted a legal threat under design patent law.
